About Us

Paul Stern, Southern Custom’s owner and founder, brings to the table a truly unique career history — with varied facets including high-end custom home building, production home building, land development and commercial construction management. He is the son of a custom home builder, and literally grew up in the business. Paul has life-long experience in housing and has had a chain of leadership roles in companies with annual revenues more than $100M per annum. Paul is a licensed Florida general contractor and graduated from what many consider to be the nation’s finest construction management university, the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management at the University of Florida.

Leading Southern Customs in Sarasota signifies Paul’s desire to return to a role that gets him closer to his clients and closer to the creative home building practices than any “big company management role” would ever allow for. He’s already “been there, done that”. For him now, leading Southern Customs means putting the customer experience at the forefront and taking pride in bringing people’s dreams into fruition.

Paul grew up in Southeast Florida and is a true “waterman”. It’s no surprise to those that know him that he’d be drawn to a life by the coast. He has held a United States Coast Guard Captains license and he can be found fishing, diving or surf kayaking in a saltwater destination whenever he has time for it. On the weekends, you’re likely to find Paul,  his wife and dogs out enjoying all the fantastic boating opportunities our area offers.
